Hi! Pleased to meet you. I'm Erica, owner of Erica Mouch Nutrition. I'm a lover of delicious food, passionate about health and I think the two should intersect regularly!
One of my favorite quotes is "“We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.” - Robert Fulghum.
Growing up, I wanted to be weird. I wanted to stand out and be unique. Now, I understand that this was the desire to be authentic. I have taken this desire to be authentic and made it central to my business values. I started my own nutrition practice because I wanted to support clients in finding what health is to them, uniquely and authentically.
What does this really mean? It means that you are an individual filled with your own life experiences. You are different from every other person who walks into my doors and I want to find out what makes you different. This is one of the keys to finding what works for your health.
I am a non-diet dietitian who supports clients in the Health at Every Size principles. This means I don't recommend a specific calorie goal and I don't recommend that you cut out 'unhealthy' food. There are many reasons I don't recommend cutting out foods. One key reason; as soon as someone tells you not to have a specific food, a cookie, for example, all you want is a cookie. Our bodies are hard wired this way! Call it being rebellious, call it whatever you like - our minds are powerful. There are some exceptions. Allergies and health conditions are great examples. So what do I recommend?
I recommend looking at health as the complex animal it is. It is so much more than weight, your diet or your exercise routine. To borrow from ASDAH "health exists on a continuum that varies with time and circumstance for each individual." It is physical, social and emotional well-being. It is eating for well-being verses eating for a certain size or shape. It also encompasses spiritual, intellectual and occupational aspects!
I help my clients narrow down this list to discover the key things that will support their health on their own continuum. It can be food focused, it may be stress or sleep focused or even social well-being focused. Ultimately, together, we choose the focus for what will support you the most. Find Your Authentic Health and celebrate your uniqueness at the same time! Curious what this would look like for you? Work with me!
